Yvette pulled into the underground parking garage and waited
for the light indicator in front of her to turn from red to green before
unlocking her door and heading towards the elevator. Once there she entered a
five digit pin code into the number pad and listened as the lift slowly rotated
down to meet her. A slight breeze hit her arms as a chill swirled within the
concrete structure and she checked the area around her for any signs of
movement. Moments like these reminded her of her favorite spy novel as a child,
Shadowed Night. There’s always
someone lurking in the shadows, she smiled to herself, remembering the
book’s tagline.

S6: Chapter 04: Text for Fun
“You’re going to get a hand cramp if you don’t put that
thing down soon,” Ryan growled watching his sister frantically typing away on
her cell phone. Stefanie had been at it all morning, texting friends, video
messaging and blogging about her big day coming soon. She had to tell everyone
about her brother buying her a car and then show them her day out searching for
the perfect ride. She’d already promised half the senior class that she’d drive
them to and from school. After Ryan made it a point to tell her that she was
going to have to deal with the gas all on her own, she cut back a little.

S5: Chapter 04: Columbo Was a Wimp
Warning: I felt it necessary to warn you all that this may be a little on the long side. I apologize in advance. Good luck solving the mystery (I tried to keep it simple!)
Yvette sat staring at the wall still feeling the pain of
their last mission. She was so close to finding answers to the person behind
the notes; he was so close yet so far away. She blew up a building lobby thanks
to her carelessness but luckily no one was inside at the time. Though had she
kept the pen on her, she would not be sitting here right now. How could she
have been that blinded? The entire situation was beginning to really weigh on
her but she remained quiet over the actual depth of her feelings about it.

S4: Chapter 04: Ghosts
– May 24, 2002 –
“Dear God we ask you to heal the broken in their hearts and bind up their wounds. Mercifully look upon those who are at this time bereaved. Be near them in their sorrow, and let their sorrow draw them nearer unto you. Now that earthly joys and comfort fail, may the things unseen and eternal grow more real, more present, more full of meaning and power. Let your strength sustain their weakness; and your peace fill their minds with perfect trust in you; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.”

S3: Chapter 04: Breakthrough
Author's note:
Continue Reading: "S3: Chapter 04: Breakthrough"
Hello readers! I know many of you sometimes gloss over warnings because you have become used to the way I write and since you haven't abandoned me I assume you've come to enjoy it. Thank you :)
However this chapter, I wanted to ensure you DIDN'T scroll by it. This chapter does NOT contain the adult material you have become accustomed to from this story. This chapter hits on the ongoing nature of Stefanie Brooks' relationship with her father Eddie.
If you are sensitive to child abuse or that topic is one that causes you extreme emotional distress I'd like to ask that you skip through those parts or bypass this chapter completely. I would not want to make you uncomfortable while reading.
Thank you again,
Daijah

S2: Chapter 04: Inside Man
Brett got home, showered and changed and tossed himself on the couch. He checked his machine for messages before turning on the television to catch the morning news. He smiled thinking about the night he’d spent with Yvette and got lost in the softness of her body. He let his mind wander over having her back and leaned against the cushions of his sofa feeling comfort and a sense of happiness he thought was lost the minute he heard those gunshots.

S1: Chapter 04: Best Laid Plans
Brett spilled a tray of drinks from an approaching waiter onto Gooding and he screamed as the heat from the coffee began soaking into his pants. “Sir, I’m terribly sorry about that.”
“Sorry?! I’m going to have your job you bumbling idiot!” he said fanning himself and wiping briskly at the area. “You’re paying for this dry cleaning!”
